Does a perfect race exist? The Henley Mile Swim, a 1.6km downstream could be called this, with it being open water swim on the world famous Henley Regatta Course, that is downriver and a simple A to B Swim. Sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it!

My Form was finally picking up, and yes times can be deceiving on this course, with it being downriver. However at the race briefing we were told that no records would probably be broken with the current being minimal and if you decided to attempt to float down, you would be in for a long day! Subsequently I thought lets hammer this, and basically murder my arms. Afterall its like a long sprint! And that is what happened. I picked a spot in the starting line, far to the right, close to the bank of the river, so that I would not have to sight and could just use the wooden beam along the river side as my guide. Perfect strategy, that got me to the finish line in 7th place out 347 starters. I knew winning wasn’t an option, with the winner finishing in a sub 20min, but this was a great race, with a great feeling at the end. Only shame was that no medal, not even a finishers medal. And I like my medals.
